OK I KNOW IT'S BEEN FOR-FREAKING-EVER. but i'm gonna try to start bringing back the xanga. journaling is sooo theraputic and helps me organize my thoughts so well. life has been redonkulous since my last entry, what with starting (and almost finishing :O :O) grad school and everything.
i was going to start off with a spring semester update when i realized that nothing would make sense since i haven't even written in here since before i graduated from rside -_______- and i'd post pictures from that...except my harddrive died and i don't have an extra $2000 lying around to fix it
so here, in a nutshell, is my introduction to my life post-ucr and now at usc :)
1. Where I Currently Reside
so basically i live in a scary, ghetto neighborhood. the first week i was here, my roommate's car got vandalized :(
here are my beautiful roommates!!! tifa and jess except jess moved out for second semester :( :(
also, i lived in a pretty ghetto room for part of my first semester. mainly because it was a not-room. bedsheets + duct tape = walls <3 genius!!
but at least i eventually moved into a room of my own so yay :) and i told myself i wouldn't decorate like i did in rside o__O
2. AACF USC
it was soooo coool to go to another aacf, even if it was totally different from ucr aacf. the first night i walked in, they were all like, "it's julia kwan! from riverside!!" hahahaha <3 (now i know that was RUTH! :D) it kind of freaked me out that aacf was so small and mostly girls (?!?!) and that people already knew heard of me, but it was such a blessing :)

since first semester i had class thurs nights, i wasn't able to make it
to any of the mtgs :( but i always went after to hang out!!
and of course, there's always post-aacf fooding times canter's..deeeelicious jewish pastries! marc, belinda, julia, steven, scott :D

i learned from rside and chose to be a cheerleader instead of a participant for im bball -__- hahaha team full of non-aacf-ers too. but so fun to watch :D

3. USC Football Games
um, of COURSE!!!! what kind of usc student would i be if i didn't live and breathe trojan football i don't have that many pictures, but trust me. i even tailgated it up at them alllllllllll :D

for my first game, i went with jesse. actually i went with him to all of them, but that might have had something to do with all the free food at the tailgates he would go to

by far my faaavorite game was the weekender, which was at cal!!!
soaking wet and shivering, but of course we still won :D
4. Skiboarding Season <3
the season was amaaaazing this year. yeayea, la is around twice as far from bear as rside, but i don't think i've ever gone this much before in one season o____O
first trip of the seaaaason was to snow summit: the drive up was killer -_____- but the actual day was suuuuuper fun
during winter break, i joined up with some other cheap asians for their yearly tahoe trip whoo! leon, mike, sara, victor, daisy, julia
my second trip during winter break wasssss back at bear, complete with a cabin ftw :) alex, lauren, julian, lisa, julia, jesse, belinda, charles
i also took chris to snow summit for his xmas present :D so sometime during that trip, i realized that i lost my keys, only to find them........still in my car door!!! HAHAHA -______-
and gotta love bear on birthdays i never knew, but apparently you get to go for FREE.
so me and jesse both took advantage on our respective bdays
5. Concerts, Concerts Galore
even though i don't particularly like this city, i've closer to concert
venues!! especially my favorite, the wiltern :D so first semester
definitely had its fair share of concert goodness, believe you me.

one of several outings to steamers, this realllyyyy sweet jazz bar/cafe in fullerton that steven took me to. i want to go to more jazz lounges! we went to see frank potenza, who is a guitar teacher at usc :O

6. Other Things I Love At USC...
there are seriously way too many, but here is a short list of some amazing blessings and good times that i've been lucky enough to have in my life here at usc
fellow founding member of mjdclag coalition aka ruth shao!!! we are SO the same person. and we have so much fun together it's criminal. which is why she is my partner in crime :D :D but yea, ruth's super encouraging and swapping stories with each other is reeeedonkulous. plus, we even went through some hs drama for yo mama so we are pretty much best friends til we're WAY past 40 slash for life
i also hung out at this place like alllll the time...
with these super gangsta cool guys! michael, julian, jordan, jesse probably only cause they have all the fun games like rock band and brawl. HAH jk i keed i keed :)
post-worship practice yogurt runs are pretty much tradition now. freaking la, i'm soooo addicted to red mango/YOGURTLAND ruth, lawlerson, jessica, scott, julia
and i guess i can't forget jesse, since he's one of my first favorites at usc :D we're the most different same people like evarrrr, it's great. and he can kinda tell the future cause he made me take a fake band picture with him the first time we hung out outside of aacf and told me we should play together some time. and then guess what we ended up doing!
that's right, our FAKE BAND turned kind of real when we actually played gigs together hahaha julsee duwan, also known as vital foe

7. Kicking It Old School

this time, jesse roped me into playing with him at ground zero for this fundraiser for alternative spring break, which is this really cool program where people give up their spring break to volunteer somewhere. ironically, ruth asked him to play but was not even present at the performance

there's this suh-weet field of yellow flowers that's off 110 and 405 that me and jesse pass sometimes going to/from his church and he's always wanted to take pictures there. so one sunday, we decided to see if we could even get to the field....
we didn't :( but it's ok because now we know how! and we found other flowers to take pictures of anyway :P

in other news, school has been a little frustrating, even though it's me last and easiest quarter o___O but i'm still really scared to graduate...i have absolutely no clue what i'm doing after juuuuly 1, which is kinda a lot of my fault -__- i haven't been faithful enough with what God's entrusted to me, so i need to hardcore get my butt into gear and get on that! hahaaha i used to think life was complicated, but then i realized that my mindset was too self/world focused :P
so i've been incredibly happy lately and i'm not really sure why except that God is SUPER FAITHFUL AND AWESOME AND GREAT!!!!

2. LA Philharmonic Concert @ Walt Disney Concert Hall
so me and the roomie went to orchestra concert and it was soooooo goood!!! man i super missed watching these <3 we had reallyreally cool seats from BEHIND the orchestra pit...i didn't even know these seats existed o__O i dozed off a liiitttle during the concert, and colleen slept through half of it HAHAHA there was a guy that sat next to her that kept look over at us like we were these young punks who were disrespecting the art of orchestra. which...we kinda were :(
but gosh! we were just waaaiting for the intermission so we could go back to the car and eat some food to wake ourselves up and after the first 2 pieces, we were on our way when we noticed there was a huuuuge amt of people that were leaving too. so we asked a worker how long the intermission was and she gave us this look and told us that the concert was over O_______O apparently casual friday concerts are shorter too -_____- hahaha we're such n00bs :P
since it was casual friday, only half of the orchestra was there and they were the back-up players anyway

this is the guest conductor...who ALSO played the piano part during the first piano concerto both of us have NEVER seen this set up before with the piano in the center of the orchestra...probably cause we've never seen a conductor that plays piano AND conducts AT THE SAME TIME

the day's meals began with lunch at wai thai temple, which chris and eric dubbed as "blasphemy food" hahahaha it was pretty cool though, with a large outdoor food court with stands all along one row. and everything was pretty cheap! too bad they played intermittent chanting through the loudspeakers....that was kinda weird.

a bigfat thankyoumapups to akshayshay for getting me tickets for my bday...even though i lost them but yay for ticketmaster being awesome! a big gang of us rsiders ended up going, which made it even funner!! yay for good friends and good music

what a good concert! i almost left the front area cause of all the moshing, and also cause of this one big white guy that just..like..leaned on me with FULL BODY CONTACT. most uncomfortable/awkward/GROSS guy everrrrrr GAGGAGGAG! but i'm really glad i didn't leave cause relient k totally ROCKED :) a lot of sweaty people, but not as much destroyage as the muse concert :P

then we had a period of updation which was amazing. isn't it great how God puts us through different things in life, but allows us to really deeply relate and understand?? I LOVE IT :D it was awesome to hear about how people had been this past year, and even though everyone has had some deep struggles, it was great to just have that sisterhood and be able to praise God for doing some SUPERB things in each of our lives :D
